Pohutukawa Native Tree Of New Zealand
The New Zealand Pohutukawa
( pronounced> Paw-who-tu-ka-wa)
The Fiery Red Flowering Pohutukawa Tree of New Zealand ,also known as the Christmas Tree ,as it breaks forth in a brilliant display of fire red flowers throughout the Christmas period ,has always been one of my favourite trees. Stunning and beautiful.!!
I have quite a few favourite flowers which always seem to evoke all kinds of happy ,peaceful moments, but I always seem to come back to the Pohutukawa flower. My dad was the real gardener in our family when I was growing up and he made it all look so simple and effortless. The rest of us pottered around or started our flowerbeds with a hiss and a roar ,only to end up losing interest along the way.
The NZ Pohutukawa is also known as the New Zealand Christmas Tree since its flowers bloom prolifically in December.
Surviving Coastal Area In Style!!
Coastal Evergreen Tree ..with brilliant red flowers from November to Jan,native to New Zealand ,but also growing in other parts of the world ( see link)
Conservation I read some time ago of a group of dedicated people calling themselves the "Crimson Brigade' who actively seek to educate and protect this tree from its newest threat , the introduced Brush-tail Possum which strips the tree of its leaves.

That tree is nothing short of spectacular! Wow! It is so much fun to see what's in other parts of the world! Thank you!
What an exquiste tree! I never even knew it existed until now. Thank you for sharing this. Thumbs up!
Pretty flower, pretty tree. I'm not big on flowers myself, Eaglekiwi, but I do love red roses, tulips and lilacs. My cousin has been a florist all his life and still operates his Cascade Florist shop in Hartsdale, N.Y. But the Powhutukawa is new to me.
New Zealand is in my plans to visit someday!
I love trees (not a tree hugger lol) and that looks beautiful!
Personally, I love NZ because of my favorite sauvignon blanc :))

Tis a beautiful tree in bloom. I imagine it is a fantastic display.
I can't resist throwing a mention of our native Oklahoma Redbud tree. In the spring it is just fantastic. Unfortunately the rest of the year it looks pretty dreary.
